Q: Can you tell us a bit about your background?

A: “I have been with my hospital for over 26 years, where I was a frontline nurse on multiple inpatient units though out the organization. In 2021, I was asked to temporarily assist in the Infection Control Department through the high times of the COVID-19 pandemic. That temporary position turned into a permanent position, and I have now been working in our Infection Prevention and Control department full-time for 3 years.”

Q: What are the main ways you protect your facility?

A: “We protect our facility from the spread of infections through compliance with hand hygiene policies, regular disinfecting of shared equipment between patients, isolation measures, promoting vaccination among patients and staff and encouraging visitors not to visit if they are feeling sick.”, says Jennifer. “Regular staff education and monitoring also play a crucial role in protecting our facility. Education is also provided to our patients and visitors upon admission, as they are an essential part of infection prevention. My role as an infection control practitioner, I feel, has a profound responsibility to prioritize the health and safety of everyone within the facility. This involves implementing and ensuring infection prevention measures are in place, staying up to date on the latest protocols, and creating a safe environment to minimize the risk of infections for both patients and staff.”
